Longview TX TV Stations: East Texas and Shreveport Channels, Towers and Antenna Tips

By

Longview's TV stations are FOX 51 KFXK, licensed to Longview, plus ABC 7 KLTV, CBS 19 KYTX and NBC 56 KETK from the Tyler side. With an outdoor antenna, many Longview homes also pull in Shreveport's ABC 3, CBS 12 and FOX 33, and NBC 6 from Texarkana. The East Texas towers stand west and southwest of town, the Shreveport towers about 49 miles east-northeast.

Longview sits almost exactly between two TV markets. Its own NBC and CBS towers are about 45 miles away, and Shreveport's are about 49. That puts the city in a rare spot where an antenna choice is also a choice of local news. This guide lists both sets of stations, shows which towns lean which way, and tells the story of the station Longview calls its own.

A city between two markets

Downtown Longview is 45 miles from the nearest East Texas NBC or CBS tower and 49 miles from Shreveport's CBS 12. Few cities sit that close to even.

Longview area antenna distances: Henderson is 24 miles from the nearest East Texas NBC or CBS tower and 62 from Shreveport, Kilgore 34 and 58, Gladewater 39 and 60, White Oak 42 and 55, Longview 45 and 49, Carthage 47 and 43, Hallsville 51 and 39, Marshall 61 and 27, Jefferson 73 and 25
East Texas or Shreveport towers? Computed from station coordinates on Wikipedia, Oct 2026.

The practical result is that FOX 51 and ABC 7 are Longview's strong signals, at 21 and 28 miles. NBC and CBS take an outdoor antenna from either direction. Some households aim west for KETK and KYTX. Others turn east for KTAL and KSLA, which are UHF and sit in the same direction.

The difference shows up in the news. The Shreveport stations cover Louisiana first. KLTV, KETK, KYTX and FOX 51 cover Gregg, Smith and Rusk counties.

Kilgore, Marshall and the towns around Longview

West of Longview, the East Texas towers are closer; from Hallsville east, Shreveport's are.

  • Kilgore: 10 miles from FOX 51 and 23 from ABC 7. The East Texas stations come in easily.
  • Henderson: 12 miles from FOX 51 and 24 from CBS 19, one of the best-placed towns in the area.
  • Gladewater and White Oak: 16 to 21 miles from ABC 7, and about 40 from the NBC tower.
  • Hallsville: 39 miles from Shreveport's towers and about 51 from CBS 19.
  • Marshall: 27 miles from Shreveport and more than 60 from the NBC and CBS towers to the southwest. Shreveport is the easier pull.
  • Jefferson: about 22 to 25 miles from KTAL and KSLA, firmly on the Shreveport side.

Distances we computed from the stations' listed coordinates. Marshall is also where cable differs: Xfinity lists Marshall and Waskom among its Texas service areas, while Longview isn't on that list.

Channel 51, Longview's station

Channel 51 signed on September 9, 1984, as KLMG-TV, a CBS station owned by Clara McLaughlin. It was the first TV station in the United States owned by a Black woman.

McLaughlin renovated the former Rollins Elementary School, once Longview's all-Black school, into the studio. She planned a network of East Texas stations around it, but the regional economy soured and financing never came. The station went through Chapter 11 in 1987.

A new owner bought it out of bankruptcy in January 1991 and switched it from CBS to FOX as KFXK. Today White Knight Broadcasting owns it, Nexstar runs it from studios in Tyler, and its tower stands in northwestern Rusk County. It's still licensed to Longview.

Antenna setup in Longview

For most Longview homes, an outdoor antenna with VHF, pointed west-southwest, covers the East Texas stations. FOX 51 and ABC 7 come in strong, while NBC 56 and CBS 19 at 45 to 46 miles need height.

If you'd rather have the Shreveport stations, a UHF antenna aimed east-northeast can do it, since all four are UHF. A rotator lets you pick either side. Before you buy, enter your address on the FCC's DTV reception map and compare signal strengths from both directions.

Sunday games and local news

Which side you watch can change the NFL game on Sunday afternoon. CBS and FOX assign regional games by market. So CBS 19 and FOX 51 may air a different game than Shreveport's CBS 12 and FOX 33.

Our guide to the cheapest way to watch the NFL covers the national games and Sunday Ticket for out-of-market teams, and our guide to Texas sports on TV lists where the Cowboys, Texans and the rest air.

Watching without cable

Longview's options are an antenna, a streaming service or IPTV, and only IPTV gives you both markets without a rotator.

  • An outdoor antenna, $50 to $120 with a mast, aimed at one market.
  • Optimum cable, the local incumbent. Our statewide guide to what cable TV costs in Texas shows its prices next to the other providers.
  • YouTube TV, $82.99 a month. Enter a Longview ZIP to see which market's locals it gives you; our YouTube TV price guide has the plans.
  • IPTVZ, starting at $29.99 for 3 months, or $74.99 for a year on one device.

The IPTVZ catalogue of October 16, 2026 lists "FOX 51 Longview" by name, along with KLTV, KYTX and KETK. On the Louisiana side it has KTBS, KSLA, KMSS, KTAL and CW 21 KPXJ. Our guides to IPTV in East Texas and leaving Optimum in Tyler and Longview go into costs.
