Leaving Optimum in Lubbock: TV Prices, Fees, Fiber Options and the Math

By

A new Optimum TV customer in Lubbock pays roughly $80 a month for Extra TV or $135 for Everything TV during the first year. Two rate-card fees, for broadcast stations and regional sports, add about $20.46 more. Keep Optimum's 300 Mbps internet, swap TV for IPTVZ, and year one comes to about $374.99.

Lubbock is a good city to rethink a cable bill. Every network, PBS and both Spanish-language networks broadcast free from towers a few miles from home. Lubbock also has fiber from Metronet and AT&T in many neighborhoods, so even the internet side has options. This guide covers Optimum's prices, the first-year math and how to change one piece at a time.

Optimum TV prices in Lubbock

Three packages matter for most Lubbock homes, and the gap between the intro price and the regular price is large.

PlanFirst-year offerRegular rate cardChannels
Entertainment TV$30 a month for 6 months, with Auto PayNot listed80+, on an Optimum Stream device
Extra TV$80 a month for 1 year$130 a month125+
Everything TV$135 a month for 1 year$170 a month200+

The intro prices were reported by reviews.org in September 2026, and the regular ones come from Optimum's rate card. Packages differ by location. Ask for a quote at your Lubbock address, and ask what the price becomes after month 12.

The two monthly fees

Look for two lines below the package on an Optimum bill: a TV Broadcast Fee, $9.99 on the 2026 rate card, and a Regional Sports Network Fee, $10.47. Your statement is the final word, since published figures vary.

The broadcast fee covers stations Lubbock receives free. KCBD, KLBK, KAMC and KJTV all transmit from 2 to 5 miles from downtown. Over a year, the broadcast fee alone comes to about $120, more than a typical antenna that brings in the same stations costs once. Fees like these are a big part of why the national average cable bill sits at $125 to $147 a month.

Year one, five setups

Same $25 internet line, five different TV choices: the cheapest year lands near $350 and the priciest at $2,165.52.

What Lubbock gets free over the air

An antenna in Lubbock receives every network the cable box did, plus two Spanish-language networks. That's NBC 11, CBS 13, ABC 28, FOX 34, PBS 5, the CW 22, Telemundo 46 and Univision 51.

The one detail: FOX 34 broadcasts on VHF 11, so the antenna has to handle VHF. Our Lubbock channel numbers guide explains why, and the Lubbock TV stations guide lists where the towers are.

Keep Optimum internet, or go fiber?

Many Lubbock households can choose between Optimum cable internet and fiber from Metronet or AT&T. Metronet completed its merger with Vexus Fiber in 2022; Vexus runs fiber-to-the-home networks in Lubbock, Amarillo, Abilene and Wichita Falls.

Fiber usually offers equal upload and download speeds, useful for video calls and backups. Optimum's appeal is The Senior List's reported five-year price lock and first year without equipment fees. Check which reaches your address on the FCC National Broadband Map. Any of them handles IPTV at about 15 Mbps per HD screen.

Texas Tech games after cable

Red Raiders football lands on ABC, FOX, ESPN, FS1, TNT or ESPN+, and only the ABC and FOX games come free over the air. In Lubbock that's KAMC 28 and KJTV 34. For the Cowboys, Rangers and Mavericks, our guide to Texas sports on TV lists the channels.

For the rest, IPTVZ's catalogue of October 16, 2026 has ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, FS1, TNT and truTV. ESPN+ event channels and the four Lubbock network stations are there too. Our Texas Tech on TV guide sorts out which sport goes where, and IPTV in Lubbock covers the full lineup.

Reasons to keep Optimum TV

  • You record a lot and keep shows for weeks; IPTVZ catch-up covers 1 to 3 days on 485 US channels.
  • Your bundle already beats these numbers. Get Optimum's internet-only price in writing before you decide.
  • Nobody at home wants to set up a streaming device.
  • Your connection drops often, which makes live streaming frustrating.

Switching without a gap

  1. Put an antenna with VHF on the main TV and scan, so the locals are covered from day one.
  2. Run the IPTVZ trial through a Tech game or a busy evening.
  3. If you're changing internet too, install the fiber line first and test it for a few days.
  4. Call or chat with Optimum to drop TV only, or cancel entirely if you moved internet.
  5. Drop off the Optimum boxes and hold on to the return slip. The first bill after the change should show no broadcast or sports fee.

Test the replacement before the call

Watch KCBD, ESPN and FS1 for a day on the IPTVZ free trial, over the Optimum or fiber connection you already have.
