Lubbock TV Stations: Every South Plains Channel and How to Watch

By

Lubbock's TV stations are NBC 11 KCBD, CBS 13 KLBK, ABC 28 KAMC and FOX 34 KJTV. Texas Tech runs PBS on 5, and the CW is on 22. Univision is on 51 and Telemundo on 46. Every tower stands inside or at the edge of the city, and FOX 34 is the only network station on VHF.

Lubbock is among the easiest places in Texas to watch free TV. The land is flat, and the towers are a few miles from almost every neighborhood. Every major network is on the air, Spanish-language ones included. The market also has a long history: one of its stations helped create the country's first regional TV network. This guide covers every channel and what to expect across the South Plains.

Towers in town

No Lubbock tower is more than 5 miles from downtown. PBS 5 sits about 2 miles west and FOX 34 about 3 miles south-southeast. The CBS 13, ABC 28 and NBC 11 towers stand 4 to 5 miles south.

  • KTTZ, PBS 5, broadcasts from the Texas Tech campus, at 18th Street and Indiana Avenue.
  • KLBK, CBS 13, and KAMC, ABC 28, share a site on University Avenue in south Lubbock, with Univision 51.
  • KCBD, NBC 11, shares its tower in south Lubbock with the CW 22 and Telemundo 46.
  • KJTV, FOX 34, transmits near I-27 and the Slaton Highway.

Distances we computed from the stations' listed coordinates. With towers this close, almost any antenna works in the city. Aim roughly south if you use a directional one; PBS 5 is close enough to come in from the side.

FOX 34 and VHF 11

KJTV, FOX 34, broadcasts on VHF channel 11, while every other Lubbock network station uses UHF. A UHF-only antenna can pull in NBC, CBS and ABC and still miss FOX.

That's also where the confusion starts: the station called NBC 11 isn't on channel 11 at all, and FOX is. Your TV sorts it out by showing 11.1 for NBC and 34.1 for FOX. If FOX is missing after a scan, try an antenna rated for VHF-High, and see the FCC's DTV reception map for your address.

Plainview43 to 48 miSouth

Distances we computed from the stations' listed coordinates. Past about 30 miles, plan on a roof antenna that handles VHF for FOX 34. Low-power Univision 51 and Telemundo 46 fade sooner than the full-power stations, so Spanish-language viewers in Levelland or Plainview may need other options.

A TV pioneer on the plains

  1. November 13, 1952: KDUB-TV, today's KLBK, signs on. Founder W. D. "Dub" Rogers then added stations in Abilene, Big Spring and Clovis, New Mexico. Together they formed the West Texas Television Network, the first regional TV network in the US.
  2. May 10, 1953: KCBD follows as the NBC station, and later becomes the first Lubbock station to broadcast in color.
  3. October 16, 1962: Texas Tech's KTXT-TV, now KTTZ, brings PBS. It was the network's only West Texas station until 1978.
  4. 1968 to 1969: KSEL-TV, now KAMC, takes ABC full time. It took the market 17 years to have all three networks.
  5. October 9, 1986: KJTV joins FOX as a charter affiliate the day the network launches.

Univision and Telemundo

Lubbock has both major Spanish-language networks on the air: Univision 51 KBZO-LD and Telemundo 46 KXTQ-CD. Both are low-power stations, with Univision transmitting from the CBS 13 and ABC 28 tower on University Avenue.

That's a difference from Amarillo, which has Telemundo but no Univision station. Entravision owns KBZO, with studios on Caprock Drive.

Who owns what

Two companies run most of Lubbock's network news. Gray Media owns NBC 11 KCBD, FOX 34 KJTV and CW 22 KLCW, which share studios at 98th Street and University Avenue. Nexstar owns CBS 13 KLBK and provides services to ABC 28 KAMC, owned by Mission Broadcasting, from studios on University Avenue.

FOX 34 was locally owned by Ramar Communications until late 2020. Texas Tech owns KTTZ through Texas Tech Public Media, which also runs two radio stations.

Watching without cable

In Lubbock, an inexpensive antenna covers every network, so cable is optional.

  • An antenna with VHF for FOX 34, $25 to $60.
  • A streaming service, like YouTube TV at $82.99 a month.
  • IPTVZ, if you want ESPN and the rest without a cable contract. One screen for a year runs $74.99.

All four Lubbock network stations appear by call sign in the October 16, 2026 IPTVZ catalogue. PBS 5 KTTZ, Univision 51 KBZO, Telemundo Lubbock and the Amarillo stations are on the panel as well. The CW's KLCW is the one it doesn't carry. See our guides to IPTV in Lubbock, Texas Tech Red Raiders on TV and leaving Optimum in Lubbock.
