Leaving Spectrum in Corpus Christi: What It Costs and What You Keep

By

A Corpus Christi home on Spectrum internet plus Stream TV Signature pays about $2,109 in the first year, local-station surcharge included. Drop the TV, keep the internet, and add IPTVZ, and that year costs $674.99. Spectrum's TV plans start at $40 a month for TV Lite in year one.

Corpus Christi is a funny market to pay a cable premium in. The same newsroom produces the 6 p.m. news on NBC 6 and CBS 10. Two of the big four sit on VHF, free to any decent antenna. And every hurricane season, a cable box goes dark the moment the power does. None of that makes Spectrum bad. It just means a lot of Coastal Bend households are paying for more than they use. Here's the math, and what you keep if you cut the TV.

Leaving Spectrum in Corpus Christi: Spectrum TV Lite $40 and Stream TV Signature $100 a month in year one plus a Broadcast TV Surcharge, against Spectrum internet with IPTVZ at $674.99 for the first year

Spectrum's Corpus Christi TV plans

Spectrum lists six TV plans for its first-year customers, from $25 to $145 a month. These came from spectrum.com's general offer on October 17, 2026; quotes tied to a Corpus Christi street address can come in different.

PlanMonthly, year oneWhat's in it
TV Latino$25Spanish-language channels; Spectrum Internet required
TV Lite$4085+ channels in the Spectrum TV App
Stream TV Latino Más$75English and Spanish channels, ViX Premium, Paramount+ Essential
Stream TV Signature$100The core lineup with streaming apps
Stream TV Pro$110Regional sports networks and ESPN Unlimited added
Stream TV VIP$145Premium channels and more sports on top

From month 13, the regular rate applies unless you lock or renegotiate. Our breakdown of what a cable bill really costs shows how those line items add up nationally.

Paying a surcharge in a shared-newsroom town

Spectrum's Broadcast TV Surcharge pays for carrying the Corpus Christi stations, and in this market two of them share one news operation. Independent estimates put the surcharge at about $21 to $26 a month in 2026; The Senior List shows $25.75.

Our finding: Since October 2023, KRIS and KZTV have simulcast their newscasts. So the $309 a year Spectrum charges for local stations buys, in practice, two English-language newsrooms (ABC 3 and the NBC-CBS team) plus FOX 38. All of them broadcast free from Robstown.

The real cost of watching those stations free is a VHF-capable antenna, because ABC 3 and CBS 10 broadcast on VHF. Our channel numbers guide explains why.

Cable, storms and the power going out

On the Coastal Bend, the TV setup that matters most is the one that works when the power doesn't. A cable box and a streaming stick both stop when electricity or broadband fails. A battery TV with an antenna keeps receiving KIII, KRIS and KZTV.

That's why we suggest keeping a cheap antenna whatever you choose for everyday TV. It costs $25 to $60 once and covers the station updates that count during a storm. Our IPTV in Corpus Christi guide lays out an everyday-plus-backup setup.

The first-year math

The difference between keeping Spectrum TV and replacing it with IPTVZ is about $1,434 in year one.

Bar chart of the first year of internet and TV in Corpus Christi: Spectrum 500 Mbps internet with Stream TV Signature and the surcharge $2,109, with YouTube TV $1,595.88, with IPTVZ on 3 devices $749.99, and with IPTVZ on one device $674.99

A test night before the phone call

Spend a day on the IPTVZ free trial over your current Spectrum connection. Watch KIII, KRIS and FOX 38, then decide whether to keep the box. No card.

What you still have after cancelling

Every Corpus Christi station keeps broadcasting after the cable box goes back.

  • On an antenna: ABC 3, NBC 6, CBS 10, PBS 16, Univision 28, FOX 38 and Telemundo, free. Our Corpus Christi TV stations guide explains the VHF antenna you need.
  • On IPTVZ: the five Corpus Christi network stations by call sign. San Antonio and Houston stations and the national networks come along too.
  • Gone: the rented receivers and their cloud recordings. What replaces them on IPTVZ is short catch-up: up to three days back, on 485 US channels.

Those station names come from our October 16, 2026 catalogue export. It also lists Victoria's ABC 25 and FOX 19, handy near the edge of the market. Univision 28 KORO and PBS 16 KEDT are on the panel too.

Keep the Spectrum internet, or switch?

Most Corpus Christi households keep Spectrum for internet and drop only TV. If you'd rather leave entirely, check these options on the FCC National Broadband Map:

  • AT&T, with fiber across many neighborhoods.
  • Astound Grande, in parts of the city.
  • T-Mobile and Verizon 5G home internet, often the quickest option on the Island.

IPTV needs only about 15 Mbps per HD screen, so even entry plans are enough. Turn the new service on and test it before you cancel the old one.

When Spectrum TV is still worth it

  • Stream TV Pro's regional sports channels matter to you, say for a team you've followed since before you moved to the Coast.
  • You record shows to keep and use the cable DVR heavily.
  • The bundle math works against you. Ask Spectrum what internet alone would cost before you assume the savings.
  • You want one bill and a technician rather than setting things up yourself.

The order to cancel in

  1. Buy or dig out an antenna with VHF, for storms and as a backup.
  2. Run the trial on your real TVs for a full evening.
  3. Look up your promo end date or price lock in your Spectrum account.
  4. Remove TV only by phone or chat, then return each receiver.
  5. Check the next statement for leftover TV or surcharge lines.

Spectrum Corpus Christi FAQ

How much is Spectrum TV in Corpus Christi?
Starting prices on spectrum.com in mid-October 2026 were $40 (TV Lite) and $100 (Signature) per month for new customers' first year. Expect roughly $21 to $26 more for the local-station surcharge.
Can I keep Spectrum internet and cancel TV?
You can. Plenty of Corpus Christi households run Spectrum as internet only. Its 500 Mbps plan was listed at $50 a month for year one; just have the TV portion taken off the account.
Will I still get KIII and KRIS after cancelling?
Yes. Cancelling cable changes nothing at the Robstown transmitters, so an antenna, IPTVZ or a streaming app all keep showing them.
Do I need a special antenna in Corpus Christi?
One that handles VHF, because ABC 3 KIII broadcasts on VHF 8 and CBS 10 KZTV on VHF 10.
What's cheaper than Spectrum in Corpus Christi?
A VHF-capable antenna, which costs once and never sends a bill. If you also want ESPN, HGTV and the rest, IPTVZ's year on one TV is $74.99.

The short version

  • Spectrum TV runs $25 to $145 a month in year one in Corpus Christi.
  • Its surcharge covers stations an antenna gets free from Robstown.
  • NBC 6 and CBS 10 share their newscasts, so you're paying for fewer newsrooms than channels.
  • Internet plus IPTVZ comes to $674.99 for year one.
  • Keep a VHF antenna for hurricane season, whatever you choose.

Cut the box, keep the antenna, and test first. Start with a day on the free trial, then compare plan lengths against your next Spectrum bill.
