Corpus Christi Channel Numbers: KIII 3, KRIS 6, KZTV 10 and Every Subchannel

By

In Corpus Christi, ABC is KIII on channel 3.1, NBC is KRIS on 6.1, CBS is KZTV on 10.1 and FOX is KSCC on 38.1. PBS is 16.1, Univision 28.1, UniMás 41.1, and Telemundo appears on both 10.2 and 47.1. The CW shares FOX's 38.3. These are antenna numbers; Spectrum uses its own.

Plenty of Corpus Christi viewers search for "KIII channel 3," and the answer hides a small surprise. Channel 3 doesn't broadcast on channel 3. It transmits on VHF 8 and tells your TV to call it 3. That's normal for digital TV, and it explains most of the confusion about Corpus Christi numbers. This page lists every main channel and subchannel, sorts out the doubles, and shows how to get them all in one scan.

Why KIII channel 3 broadcasts on 8

KIII calls itself channel 3 but transmits on VHF channel 8, and your TV shows "3.1" because the signal tells it to. A virtual channel is that label: the number a station tells your TV to display, whatever frequency it really uses.

Before 2009, KIII really was on channel 3. In the digital switch, it kept its digital signal on VHF 8 and kept the familiar "3" as its virtual number. The same trick runs across the market:

  • NBC 6 KRIS actually broadcasts on UHF 26. It used VHF 13 until February 2022.
  • CBS 10 KZTV is one of the few that kept its old number for real, on VHF 10.
  • FOX 38 KSCC broadcasts on UHF 19.

Why care? Because antennas see the real channel. ABC "3" and CBS "10" are both VHF, so an antenna that's weak on VHF loses them, even though they look like low, easy numbers.

Corpus Christi virtual and real channels: ABC 3 KIII broadcasts on VHF 8, NBC 6 KRIS on UHF 26, CBS 10 KZTV on VHF 10, PBS 16 KEDT on UHF 23, Univision 28 KORO on UHF 27 and FOX 38 KSCC on UHF 19

Channels that show up twice

A Corpus Christi scan lists a few networks twice, on purpose.

  • Telemundo on 10.2 and 47.1: Scripps runs KAJA Telemundo both as a KZTV subchannel and on low-power K22JA-D. Because 10.2 rides on full-power KZTV, it usually reaches farther than low-power 47.1.
  • KDF-TV on 10.3 and 47.2: the same independent channel, paired with Telemundo on both stations.
  • The Nest on 3.6 and 38.6: two different owners carry the same network.

Keep whichever copy comes in better at your house and hide the other in your TV's channel list.

Numbers in Kingsville, Alice, Beeville and Refugio

Across the Coastal Bend, the channel numbers stay the same, but some come from local repeaters. Telemundo 47 has its own repeaters: K31KK-D for Kingsville and Alice, and K09YZ-D for Beeville and Refugio.

So a Kingsville TV still shows Telemundo as 47.1, from a closer transmitter. Our guide to Kingsville and Coastal Bend TV covers reception south of the city. Victoria is a separate TV market with its own numbers; see Victoria TV stations.

Spectrum and streaming numbers

On Spectrum and satellite, Corpus Christi stations use different channel numbers, listed in each provider's guide. The numbers on this page work only with an antenna. Paying Spectrum mainly for the locals? Our guide to leaving Spectrum in Corpus Christi prices the switch.

IPTV skips numbers altogether: you pick KIII, KRIS or KZTV by name in the guide. All seven main Corpus Christi stations are on the IPTVZ panel, from ABC 3 and NBC 6 to Telemundo KAJA, Univision 28 and PBS 16. Our guide to IPTV in Corpus Christi explains the setup.

Getting every channel in one scan

  1. Start with a VHF-capable antenna. ABC 3 and CBS 10 need it, for the reasons our guide to VHF antenna reception in Texas explains.
  2. Aim west-southwest, toward Robstown, where nearly every tower stands. The FCC's DTV reception map gives the direction from your address.
  3. Run the TV's auto scan with the input set to Antenna or Air.
  4. Check 3.1 and 10.1 first. If both play, the UHF channels almost always do too.
  5. Rescan after any change, like KRIS's 2022 move from VHF 13 to UHF 26.

Channel 3 by name, not by number

Look up KIII, KRIS and KZTV in the IPTVZ free trial guide. No VHF antenna, no rescans, no card.
