Killeen and Fort Hood TV Channels: Stations, Antenna Directions and Hometown News
Killeen and Fort Hood get the Waco-Temple stations: NBC 6 KCEN, CBS 10 KWTX, ABC 25 KXXV, FOX 44 KWKT and CW 46 KNCT. Telemundo is on 10.2. Univision 62 KAKW is licensed to Killeen itself. The English-language towers stand 27 to 32 miles east-northeast of town, while Univision's is about 31 miles south-southwest.
Killeen sits at the western edge of the Waco-Temple-Bryan TV market, and that makes antennas tricky. The main stations come from one direction and Univision from almost the opposite one. Austin's stations are close enough to tempt you, but too far to rely on. Fort Hood brings another twist: thousands of families who just moved here and still want news from home. This guide covers both.

One city, two antenna directions
For NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX and the CW, point your antenna east-northeast, toward Moody. CBS 10, ABC 25, FOX 44 and CW 46 broadcast from there, 27 to 29 miles from downtown Killeen. NBC 6 transmits a little further east, along I-35 south of Eddy, about 32 miles away.

Univision is the odd one out. KAKW's tower stands in Williamson County, roughly halfway between Killeen and Austin, about 31 miles south-southwest. A directional antenna aimed at Moody has its back to that tower. Households that want both often add a second antenna or a rotator, or use an omnidirectional model on a tall mast.
Three of the stations also need VHF: NBC 6 on VHF 9, CBS 10 on VHF 10 and Univision 62 on VHF 13. An antenna marked UHF only will miss them. Before buying, enter your address on the FCC's DTV reception map.
Distances from Killeen-area towns
Copperas Cove, Kempner and Lampasas are 37 to 54 miles from Moody, which calls for a roof antenna. Killeen, Harker Heights and Nolanville sit closer, at 24 to 28 miles.
| Town | To the Moody towers | To Univision 62 |
|---|---|---|
| Nolanville | 24 mi, northeast | 33 mi, southwest |
| Harker Heights | 26 mi, northeast | 32 mi, southwest |
| Gatesville | 26 mi, east-southeast | 51 mi, south-southwest |
| Killeen | 28 mi, east-northeast | 31 mi, south-southwest |
| Fort Hood main post | 30 mi, east-northeast | 31 mi, south-southwest |
| Copperas Cove | 37 mi, east-northeast | 28 mi, south |
| Kempner | 44 mi, east-northeast | 25 mi, south |
| Lampasas | 54 mi, east-northeast | 26 mi, south-southeast |
Distances we computed from the stations' listed coordinates; NBC 6 adds 2 to 5 miles to the Moody figures. Terrain matters as much as the miles. In Copperas Cove and Kempner, a mast that clears the rooftops and trees helps more than a bigger antenna.
Killeen's own stations
Two full-power stations have deep Killeen roots, though neither runs its newsroom there today.
- KAKW, Univision 62, is licensed to Killeen, and its call letters stand for Austin, Killeen and Waco. It signed on May 31, 1996, as a UPN station. Today it's TelevisaUnivision's Austin outlet, with studios on North Loop Boulevard in Austin.
- KNCT, CW 46, began on November 23, 1970, as the PBS station of Central Texas College, with studios on the college's Killeen campus. It left PBS on August 31, 2018. After a year off the air, it came back under Gray Media as the market's CW station, run from Waco.
KPLE-CD on channel 31, a low-power religious station carrying TCT, is also licensed to Killeen. For local news, Killeen watches the Waco and Temple stations, which also report on Fort Hood.
Can Killeen get Austin channels?
Usually not over the air. Austin's main towers stand west of downtown Austin, about 53 to 56 miles south of Killeen, Harker Heights and Copperas Cove. That's past the reliable range of most home antennas, especially with hills in between.
Univision is the exception, since KAKW is Austin's Univision station and reaches Killeen directly. For KVUE 24, KXAN 36, FOX 7 KTBC and CBS 42 KEYE, the practical route is streaming. Our Austin TV stations guide lists every Austin channel.
TV for Fort Hood families
The post has been Fort Hood again since June 10, 2025, now honoring Col. Robert B. Hood, a World War I officer. It was Fort Cavazos from May 2023, and before that Fort Hood for John Bell Hood. Some guides and channel listings still use the 2023 name.
For a family that just moved here, the Waco stations are the local news, but they aren't the news from home. A soldier from Ohio still wants the Browns on Sunday, and a spouse from Georgia still checks the Atlanta weather. Antennas and most streaming services only give you the stations where you live now.
IPTVZ works differently. Its October 16, 2026 catalogue counts 803 local ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX feeds, so search the panel for the city back home. NFL Sunday Ticket channels and NFL RedZone are there too. There's no contract to cancel at the next move, and a plan follows you to the next duty station. Some on-post housing comes with its own internet setup, so check with your housing office about speeds before you sign up.
