San Antonio Channel Numbers: What Channel Is ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX?

By

In San Antonio, ABC is channel 12 (KSAT), CBS is 5 (KENS), NBC is 4 (WOAI) and FOX is 29 (KABB). PBS is 9 (KLRN), The CW is 4.2, Univision is 41 and Telemundo is 60. This guide lists every number, the subchannels behind it, and the San Antonio numbers that are not what they seem.

Channel numbers here have a habit of moving around. CW 35 is no longer on 35. KSAT's own channels arrive from four different transmitters. And Univision shows up under three numbers. If your TV guide looks like a riddle, this is the answer key.

San Antonio channel numbers: ABC 12 KSAT, CBS 5 KENS, NBC 4 WOAI, FOX 29 KABB, PBS 9 KLRN, The CW on 4.2, Univision 41 and Telemundo 60

This table gives the number your TV shows for each San Antonio network, the station behind it, and the signals it arrives on. Data comes from the RabbitEars San Antonio listing and each station's record on Wikipedia, checked October 18, 2026.

The channel is the number your TV displays, also called the virtual channel. The regular signal is the frequency it really uses, which every TV can receive with the right antenna. The NextGen copy is the ATSC 3.0 version, which needs a NextGen-capable TV or tuner. "Not confirmed" means we have not found that station in our panel catalogue yet, which is not proof it is missing.

What channel is ABC in San Antonio?

ABC is channel 12 in San Antonio, station KSAT, known as KSAT 12. Its studios are on North St. Mary's Street downtown. Since May 6, 2024, its regular signal has come from KLRN's transmitter on VHF 9, per the KSAT-TV station record. KSAT's own VHF 12 transmitter now sends NextGen TV only.

KSAT's subchannels are MeTV on 12.2, Movies! on 12.3, Heroes & Icons on 12.4 and Start TV on 12.5. Each comes from a different station's tower, which we untangle below. If ABC 12 breaks up on your antenna, our San Antonio TV stations guide walks through the fix.

What channel is CBS in San Antonio?

CBS is channel 5, station KENS, known as KENS 5. It broadcasts on UHF 29 from the tower farm about 17 miles southeast of downtown, which most antennas receive easily. Its subchannels are Quest on 5.2, True Crime Network on 5.3, Outlaw on 5.4, Jewelry TV on 5.5, KENS weather on 5.6 and Shop LC on 5.7.

KENS also carries one channel that is not its own: Heroes & Icons on 12.4, which belongs to KSAT. Its NextGen copy rides on KSAT's VHF 12 signal, and that copy is encrypted.

What channel is NBC in San Antonio?

NBC is channel 4, station WOAI, branded News 4 San Antonio. It broadcasts on UHF 28. Its subchannels are The CW on 4.2, Antenna TV on 4.3 and Charge! on 4.4.

That 4.2 slot is the one people miss. It is The CW, still called CW 35 on the air, even though it has not been on channel 35 since September 2021. More on that in a moment.

What channel is FOX in San Antonio?

FOX is channel 29, station KABB, branded FOX San Antonio. It broadcasts on UHF 30. Its subchannels are Comet on 29.2 and Rewind TV on 29.3. KABB also carries The Nest on 35.2, one of KMYS's channels.

What channel is PBS in San Antonio?

PBS is channel 9, station KLRN. It broadcasts on VHF 9. Its subchannels are World on 9.2, PBS Kids on 9.3 and Create on 9.4, per the KLRN station record.

KLRN's signal also carries KSAT's ABC 12 and Movies! on 12.3. So the same VHF 9 signal decides whether you get PBS and ABC. If one fails, the other usually fails with it.

CW 35, channel 35 and MyNetworkTV 2

The CW is on channel 4.2 in San Antonio, not 35. In September 2021, The CW and its "CW 35" name moved from KMYS to a subchannel of WOAI, per the KMYS station record. The name stayed. The number did not.

Channel 35 still exists. It is KMYS, licensed to Kerrville, and its main channel now shows the Roar network. Its regular signal rides on KCWX's VHF 8 transmitter as 35.1. So if you tune to 35 for a CW show, you get Roar instead. Nothing wrong with Roar, unless you were expecting The CW.

MyNetworkTV is channel 2, station KCWX, licensed to Fredericksburg in the Hill Country. It broadcasts on VHF 8. Its subchannels include KCWX+ on 2.2, Catchy Comedy on 2.4 and MeTV Toons on 2.5. The Texas Rangers list KCWX 2 as their free over-the-air home in the San Antonio market, per the Rangers' where-to-watch page.

Numbers that are not what they seem

In San Antonio, the number on your screen often belongs to one station while the signal comes from another. Stations share transmitters to make room for NextGen TV. This table shows where each surprising number really comes from.

San Antonio channel numbers and the transmitters that really send them: ABC 12.1 and Movies! 12.3 from KLRN on VHF 9, MeTV 12.2 from KVDA on UHF 15, Heroes and Icons 12.4 from KENS on UHF 29, Start TV 12.5 from KNIC on UHF 18, The CW on WOAI 4.2, Roar 35.1 from KCWX on VHF 8, and Univision on 41, 17.2 and low-power 34

35.1Roar (KMYS)KCWX, VHF 8
17.2Univision (KWEX)KNIC, UHF 18
34Univision and UniMásLow-power KCOR-CD

Our finding: KSAT's five channels come from four different transmitters, on both VHF and UHF. That explains a puzzle you may have hit: MeTV on 12.2 comes in fine, but ABC on 12.1 does not. Your TV is not broken. The two channels simply come from different towers.

Univision is the other number puzzle. Its main channel is 41, but the same programming appears as 17.2 on KNIC's signal. It shows up again on low-power channel 34, which carries Univision and UniMás. So yes, if you have seen Univision on 34, you are not imagining it.

Spanish-language and other free channels

San Antonio's Spanish-language channels are Univision 41, Telemundo 60, UniMás 17 and Estrella TV 10.1. Telemundo's subchannels are TeleXitos on 60.2, Cozi TV on 60.3, NBC True CRMZ on 60.4 and Oxygen on 60.5. Univision adds Nosey on 41.3.

A few other free channels round out the dial:

  • ION on 26 (KPXL, licensed to Uvalde), with Court TV on 26.2, Laff on 26.3, ION Mystery on 26.4 and ION Plus on 26.5.
  • TBN on 23 (KHCE), with TBN Inspire on 23.2 and Enlace on 23.3.
  • Low-power channels such as Estrella TV on 10.1, Grit on 10.2 and BUZZR on 10.5 (KGMM-CD), and TVSA on 16.1.

Low-power stations reach a smaller area, so they may not show up everywhere in the market. Our guide to Spanish-language TV in San Antonio covers the Spanish options in depth.

Why your channel numbers changed

San Antonio channel numbers usually change for one of three reasons. A station moved its signal, your TV found a NextGen copy, or a weak channel dropped out of the scan.

  • A station moved its signal. The big one was May 6, 2024, when KSAT's channels moved to other transmitters. In September 2021, The CW moved from 35 to 4.2. Until you rescan, your TV looks in the old place and finds nothing.
  • Your TV found a NextGen copy. NextGen TVs can list CBS 5, PBS 9, ABC 12, Univision 41 and Telemundo 60 twice: once from the regular signals and once from KSAT's VHF 12. NBC 4, FOX 29, KCWX 2 and Roar 35 can appear twice from KMYS on UHF 32.
  • A weak channel dropped out. When a signal fades, all its subchannels go with it. Lose KLRN's VHF 9, and PBS, ABC 12.1 and Movies! 12.3 disappear together.

To rescan, open your TV's settings, choose Channels, then Auto scan or Auto program. Pick Antenna or Air, not Cable. Rescan again after you move the antenna. The FCC reception map shows which way to point it from your address.

Channel numbers on cable, streaming and IPTV

Cable and satellite providers set their own channel numbers, so KSAT 12 is not always 12 on your box. The numbers can differ by provider, package and even neighborhood. Use your provider's on-screen guide or its lineup for your address.

Streaming services and IPTV skip numbers almost entirely. You pick channels by name. On IPTVZ, the San Antonio locals appear as ABC 12 San Antonio (KSAT), CBS 5 San Antonio (KENS), NBC 4 San Antonio (WOAI) and FOX 29 San Antonio (KABB). PBS 9 (KLRN), CW 35, UniMás KNIC, Univision San Antonio and Telemundo San Antonio are there too. Type "San Antonio" into the search and they come up together.

The national versions of several subchannel networks are in the IPTVZ lineup as well, including MeTV, Start TV, Antenna TV, Comet, Cozi, Catchy Comedy, MeTV Toons and PBS Kids. Everything arrives over your internet, so tower sharing and rescans stop mattering. The full IPTVZ channel list shows the rest, and our guide to IPTV in San Antonio explains what you need.
