Dallas Channel Numbers: What Channel Is FOX, NBC, ABC and CBS in Dallas-Fort Worth?

By

In Dallas-Fort Worth, FOX is channel 4, NBC is 5, ABC is 8 and CBS is 11. PBS is 13 (KERA), TXA is 21, Univision is 23, FOX 4+ is 27, KFAA is 29, The CW is 33, Telemundo is 39 and UniMás is 49. Those are the over-the-air numbers every antenna TV in the Metroplex shows. Below is each network with its free subchannels, the signal it really comes from, and the backup channels most people never notice.

DFW numbers hide more copies than most markets. FOX 4 also shows up as 27.4. WFAA has a twin on 8.8. KERA appears a second time on 22.1. If your channel list looks like it has doubles, it probably does, and some of them can save you a lot of antenna fiddling.

The channel is the number your TV displays, also called the virtual channel. The regular signal is the frequency it really uses, and every TV can receive it with the right antenna. A second copy is the same programming sent from another transmitter. The NextGen copy is an ATSC 3.0 version on KSTR that only NextGen TVs can show. For the full station details, see our list of Dallas TV stations.

What channel is FOX in Dallas?

FOX is channel 4 in Dallas-Fort Worth, station KDFW, known as FOX 4. Your TV shows 4, but KDFW actually broadcasts on UHF channel 35, according to the FCC. Its subchannels include FOX 4+ on 4.2, Heroes & Icons on 4.3 and Nosey on 4.5.

FOX 4 also has a second copy on 27.4, sent by sister station KDFI on UHF 27. If 4.1 breaks up at your address, 27.4 may still come in. FOX 4 is not Fox News, by the way. It is the local FOX station, with local news, NFL games and 17 Dallas Stars games this season.

What channel is ABC in Dallas?

ABC is channel 8 in Dallas-Fort Worth, station WFAA, known as WFAA 8. It broadcasts on VHF channel 8, the same number it shows. Its subchannels are News 8 Now on 8.2, True Crime Network on 8.3 and Quest on 8.4.

Diagram of Dallas-Fort Worth channels with second copies: WFAA 8 also on 8.8 via KFAA on UHF 30, FOX 4 also on 27.4 via KDFI with a NextGen copy on UHF 34, KERA 13 also on 22.1 from a low-power station, and UniMás 49 sent on Univision's UHF 33 signal

WFAA is the only main DFW station on VHF, which is why it is the channel antennas lose most often. Sister station KFAA in Decatur rebroadcasts WFAA on UHF channel 30, shown on your TV as 8.8. According to KFAA's Wikipedia entry, the simulcast exists to improve WFAA's reception.

Our finding: We checked 8.8 against the list of NextGen stations, and KFAA is not on it. So 8.8 is a regular signal that any TV can receive. If your antenna drops 8.1 but finds 8.8, keep 8.8 as your ABC channel.

What channel is NBC in Dallas?

NBC is channel 5, station KXAS, known as NBC 5. It is licensed to Fort Worth and broadcasts on UHF channel 24. Its subchannels are COZI TV on 5.2 and NBC True CRMZ on 5.3.

Channel 5.4 is a surprise. It carries Oxygen, but the signal comes from Telemundo 39 (KXTX), NBC's Spanish-language sister station. So if 5.4 breaks up while NBC 5 is fine, point the antenna toward Telemundo's tower instead.

What channel is CBS in Dallas?

CBS is channel 11, station KTVT, known as CBS 11. It is licensed to Fort Worth and broadcasts on UHF channel 19, which makes it easy to receive. Its subchannels are Start TV on 11.2, Dabl on 11.3, Outlaw on 11.4 and Charge! on 11.5.

What channel is PBS in Dallas?

PBS is channel 13 in Dallas-Fort Worth, station KERA-TV. It is licensed to Dallas and broadcasts on UHF channel 14. Its subchannels are PBS Kids 24/7 on 13.2, Create on 13.3 and World Channel on 13.4.

A low-power station, KNAV-LD, repeats all four KERA channels as 22.1 to 22.4. That is why some TVs show PBS twice, once on 13 and once on 22. Both carry the same programs, so keep whichever one comes in better.

CW33, TXA 21, FOX 4+ and KFAA 29

DFW has four more English-language stations, and each one has its own free extras:

  • CW33 (KDAF), channel 33: Antenna TV 33.2, Grit 33.3, Charge! 33.4 and Rewind TV 33.5. CW33 also airs a select package of Rangers games.
  • TXA 21 (KTXA), channel 21: an independent station, with Dabl on 21.4.
  • FOX 4+ (KDFI), channel 27: MyNetworkTV programs, Movies! on 27.2, BUZZR on 27.3 and FOX Weather on 27.6. It also airs some Stars games.
  • KFAA 29: the Mavericks' local channel in 2026-27, with Hot 97 TV on 29.2.

Our guide to watching the Cowboys, Mavericks, Stars and Rangers without cable lists which games air on which of these channels.

Channels that show up twice

Several DFW channels are sent from two transmitters, so a full scan can list them twice. The number after the dot does not always tell you which tower sends it:

Your TV showsChannelReally sent by
4.2FOX 4+FOX 4 (KDFW), UHF 35
27.4FOX 4FOX 4+ (KDFI), UHF 27
8.8WFAA (ABC)KFAA, UHF 30

22.1 to 22.4KERA and its subchannelsKNAV-LD, low power
49.1UniMásUnivision 23 (KUVN), UHF 33

Think of it as free insurance. When one tower is hard to receive at your address, its twin from another tower often is not.

Spanish-language and other free channels

DFW's Spanish-language stations are Univision 23, Telemundo 39, UniMás 49 and Estrella TV 47, all on UHF. Their free subchannels include:

  • Univision 23 (KUVN): Bounce TV 23.2, ION Mystery 23.3 and MovieSphere Gold 23.4.
  • Telemundo 39 (KXTX): TeleXitos 39.2.
  • UniMás 49 (KSTR): Court TV 49.3.
  • Estrella TV 47 (KTXD, Greenville): Comet 47.2, Charge! 47.3, The Nest 47.4 and ROAR 47.5.

Two more stations carry a lot of free channels. On MeTV, channel 55 (KAZD, Lake Dallas), MeTV itself is on 55.2, not 55.1. The family also includes West 55.1, MeTV Toons 55.3, MeTV Plus 55.4, Story Television 55.5 and Catchy Comedy 55.6. ION, channel 68 (KPXD, Arlington), adds ION Plus 68.2, Laff 68.3, Busted 68.5 and Game Show Central 68.6.

Why your channel numbers changed

DFW channel numbers usually change for one of three reasons: a station moved its signal, your TV found a second copy, or a weak channel dropped out of the scan.

  1. A station moved its signal. Your TV shows the same number, but the frequency behind it changed. Until you rescan, the TV looks in the old place and finds nothing.
  2. Your TV found a second copy. Doubles like 4.1 and 27.4, or 13.1 and 22.1, are the same programs from different towers. NextGen TVs can also list FOX 4, Univision, CW33 and UniMás again from UHF 34.
  3. A weak channel dropped out. When a station's signal fades, every subchannel goes with it. A Fort Worth viewer on Reddit lost channel 4.3, then found every other 4.x channel gone too. The advice in that thread: move the antenna and rescan.

To rescan, open your TV's settings, choose Channels, then Auto scan or Auto program. Pick Antenna or Air, not Cable. Rescan again after you move the antenna. The FCC reception map shows which way to point it from your address. Still missing channels? Our guide to why some Texas channels won't come in goes deeper.

Channel numbers on cable, streaming and IPTV

Cable and satellite providers set their own channel numbers, so FOX 4 is not always 4 on your box. The numbers can differ between providers, packages and even neighborhoods. Use your provider's on-screen guide or its channel lineup for your address.

Streaming services and IPTV skip numbers almost entirely. You pick channels by name. On IPTVZ, the DFW locals appear as FOX 4 Dallas (KDFW), NBC 5 Dallas (KXAS), ABC 8 Dallas (WFAA), CBS 11 Dallas (KTVT), PBS (KERA) Dallas, TXA 21 and My27 KDFI. Univision, Telemundo and UniMás Dallas are there too. Type "Dallas" into the search and they all come up.

The national versions of many subchannel networks are also in the IPTVZ lineup, including Antenna TV, Comet, Charge!, BUZZR, Bounce TV, Laff, Court TV, Grit, Cozi, Catchy Comedy and FOX Weather. Every channel arrives over your internet, so the WFAA antenna problem and rescans stop mattering. Our full IPTVZ channel list shows the rest.
